Dr. Greg Tuegel grew up in St. Louis, MO. He received his undergraduate degree at Butler University and completed his medical school at St. Louis University. His pediatric residency was completed at the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. He has been a part of PAFP since 1984. Dr Tuegel’s areas of interest include asthma, behavior problems and well child care. He enjoys his children and their activities. Dr. Tuegel is also involved in Pregnancy Resources of Abilene and his church, Beltway Baptist Church. Dr Tuegel’s family includes his wife, Vicki, and 7 children; Andrew, Amy, Elizabeth, Micah, Josiah, Grace and Daniel. |

Dr. Jimmy Strong is a home town boy who attended Abilene High School. After Abilene High, he attended University of Texas (Go Longhorns), and completed his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. His pediatric residency was completed at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals and his area of interest is general pediatrics. Prior to joining PAFP in 1995, Dr. Strong practiced pediatrics in Houston for 10 years. Christian faith is the foundation for his life. Areas of interest include youth sports, hunting and fishing. He also enjoys spending time with his wife Kathy, his 4 children, 2 labs, 1 cat and 1 horse. |

Dr. Rob Wiley, a west Texas boy, grew up in Odessa, Texas. He attended Permian (MOJO) High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Hardin-Simmons University and attended University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for his medical degree. Dr. Wiley completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma (OU) and joined PAFP in 1995. His areas of interests in pediatrics are behavioral/developmental medicine and general pediatrics. He enjoys time with his family, reading, hunting, fly-fishing and skiing (water/snow). He is actively involved with Children’s Miracle Network, Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, and Young Life. His family includes his wife Angie, 3 children (Kristen, Marcus and Elizabeth), 3 dogs and 2 cats. |

Dr. Amy McClatchy is the newest physician to our practice. We are very excited to have her associated with Professional Association for Pediatrics. Dr McClatchy grew up in Huntington, WV. She did her undergraduate, medical school and pediatric residency at Marshall University (We are… Marshall).She joined PAFP in 2006. Her pediatric interests include asthma and behavior problems. She enjoys spending time outdoors and with her husband, Josh, and her precious daughter, Wylie. |

Justin Smith grew up in Lawn, Texas and graduated from Jim Ned High School. He attended college in Wichita Falls at Midwestern State University and medical school in Dallas at UT Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Smith co ntinued his pediatric training at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. His areas of interest in pediatrics include weight management, sports medicine and development. Dr. Smith spends his free time reading, playing tennis and golf. He enjoys spending time with his wife Rachel and son Noah. |

Heidi Benson, RN, MSN, FNPC, hails from Columbia Falls, MT, at the base of Glacier National Park. She did her undergraduate and masters degrees at ACU. As an RN, Heidi worked in labor and delivery, pediatrics, and PICU. She has been an associate at PAFP since 2002. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Lance, and her two wonderful kids. Her free time is spent mostly chasing after her busy family. |

Susan Preston, RNC.S, CPNP, is a native of Loraine Texas. She did her undergraduate work at Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas, her nursing degree at Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in May 1970. Registered Nurse in August of 1970 and Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in January 1992. Prior to joining PAFP in 1993, Susan worked for Brown County Health Department, Early ISD, Brownwood Regional Hospital, West Central Texas Home Health Agency and Hendrick Memorial Hospital. Susan’s interests outside of work include membership with First Baptist Church and Bible Study Fellowship. Susan and husband Harold love to spend time with their grandchildren. |

Our History
A Timeline for the Professional Association for Pediatrics
1957 In May, 1957, Dr. Stanton J. (“Jake”) Barron moves to Abilene and opens an office at 1241 N. Mockingbird in solo practice.
1975 Dr George D. (“Dan”) Pope joins Dr. Barron in a new office at 1101 North19th. Street.
1979 Now twenty-two years old the practice is joined by Dr. Steve Faehnle.
1984 Dr. Greg Tuegel moves to Abilene, bringing the number of pediatricians in the practice who trained at Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics to four.
1993 Dr. Jake Barron retires from active practice after serving the children of Abilene for thirty-six years.
1993 Susan Preston, family nurse practitioner, joins us, finally adding “the woman’s touch” to our practice.
1995 We add Dr. Jimmy L. Strong, an Abilene native, and Dr. Rob Wiley, a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University and now a member of the HSU Board of Trustees, to the practice.
2002 Dr. Dan Pope leaves the practice to work full time as a medical missionary in Nairobi, Kenya.
2002 Mrs. Heidi Benson, a nurse practitioner, joins our ranks.
2006 We are grateful for the arrival of Dr. Amy McClatchy to the practice.
2007 Celebrating our fiftieth year of continuous service to the Children of Abilene and the Big Country!
2009 Dr. Faehnle retires from full-time practice and accepts a position with Hendrick Medical Center as VP of Medical Affairs.
2009 We welcome Dr. Justin Ray Smith, a former patient of PAP and graduate of Jim Ned High School.
